Smart tips for the right technique
- Focus on proper chewing
- Eat extremely slowly
- Enjoy every bite with all the sins
Why does the right technique matter?
Why is proper chewing important? Saliva contains various enzymes. Some of them are anti-bacterial and help the digestion (e.g. ptyalin which splits carbohydrates and thereby helps significantly their digestion already in the mouth). Chew every single bite until you achieve a liquid and smooth consistency, whatever the food is.
Why should we eat slowly? Only when eating very very very slowly the body gets enough time to recognize and send a signal about how nourished it feels.
If you are naturally a quick eater (like me, unfortunately), hear the good news: there are some little tricks we can apply! For instance, you can try leaving the cutlery aside the plate on the table while chewing and start loading your fork again only when your mouth is completely empty. You will be surprised how this little thing will slow you down, which is good!
One tip more: to prevent showering half of your co-eaters, try to swallow everything before you speak out. It is a clear win-win: both your body and your guests will be grateful.
Above all: enjoy every bite with all the sins.
Don’t let yourself distract by TV, whatsapping, scrolling instagram (not even mine!) or reading emails. What a pity to eat without even noticing it!
This applies actually also to some little sins: you cannot live without dark chocolate? Ok, fair enough – but arrange it as a special event! Make it nice, sit down and let it melt on your tongue. Enjoy every second of that beautiful taste, don’t rush. What will you achieve? The time of pleasure prolongues and the amount of the consumed chocolate reduces to the amount the body still enjoys.
